Week 5, Day 7

1 Thessalonians 3:12

May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else

Points of Interest

  • An increase and an overflow of love is a direct sign that we are “full of the Holy Spirit.” Love is the greatest of all the spiritual gifts. (“But the greatest of these is love.”) But we cannot just be loving, as much as we’d like to believe that we can. The prayer given to us here is for the Lord to aid the overflow of love in our lives so that it spills over to everyone we come in contact with.

Spiritual Reflection

Yesterday we prayed for the Holy Spirit to fill us. Do this again today. As you do, take a moment to settle in, breath a few deep breaths, let your thoughts be calm. Once you feel peaceful, pray, “Holy Spirit, come and fill me up.”  As you do, pause and wait. Be aware of your breathing. Pray again, “Fill me up, Holy Spirit.” Notice how you feel as you breathe and wait. Take care not to take on any additional agenda. Just continue to breathe slowly and deliberately, praying for the Holy Spirit to fill you up.  After a few minutes, take note of how you feel. When you are done, thank the Holy Spirit for being with you and filling you.
