Week 6, Day 3
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
Points of Interest
• “We confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.” Remember from Exodus 33 that when Moses says, “Show me your glory!” that God responds with, “I’ll show you my goodness.” God seems to say that glory is shown in goodness. Towards this end, when we share God’s glory, we share God’s goodness.
• “We know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.”God’s love is so beyond human love that we can’t really grasp it on our own. AND, because it’s so important to God that we experience God’s love, the Holy Spirit steps in to be a ‘spiritual funnel.’ This ‘spiritual funnel’ is how we receive God’s love, how we get that love into our lives. The Holy Spirit gives us the supernatural ability to experience love and life beyond what we could ever imagine.
Taking it Home
We’ve been focusing a lot on God’s love this week. Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit to once again fill you with God’s love. As you do that, ask that the Holy Spirit would increase your capacity to open your heart to that love. And as you pray, take a moment to envision the Holy Spirit actually funneling the love of God to your heart. Imagine that love overflowing. End your time by praying, “God I receive your love! Thank you!”
For your “at least one”
Ask God to surprise your “at least one” this week with actions or words that make them feel loved.
For our church
God’s love can really help us when we are trying to walk out life for the long run. Pray that God’s love would settle in our hearts so that we have the ability to endure through the times that feel the hardest. It would be great if life was always easy. But it’s not. Pray for God’s love to heal us so that our character, endurance, perseverance, and hope can grow and mature.
